Accolade – a mark of acknowledgment; an award; an expression of praise

Approbationproof, commendation, praise

Chasseurs – light cavalrymen or infantrymen trained for rapid maneuvering; an attendant in uniform; footman

Cortege – a train of attendants; a procession of individuals of status

Cravat – a band or scarf worn around the neck

Cuirassier – a mounted soldier wearing a piece of armor covering the body from neck to waist

Diadem – crown

Discourse  verbal interchange of ideas; conversation; formal and orderly expression of thought on a subject; writings

Dissimulation – to hide under a false appearance

Dragoon  a member of a French military unit composed of heavily armed mounted troops; cavalryman

Enormities – an outrageous, improper, vicious, or evil act

Ermine – weasels whose coats become white in winter; white ermine fur was often used on ceremonial or official robes

Expiation – the act of making atonement; making something right or to correct something

Fete – a large party, often outdoors, with entertainment

Grenadier – a soldier who carries and throws grenades

Military stores – military supplies such as guns, ammunitions, tents, etc.

Papal – of or relating to the Pope

Pillage – the act of looting, robbing, or plundering

Pontifical – celebrated with splendor and distinction; a show of magnificence

Privateers – an armed ship owned privately that is licensed to attack enemy ships and take cargo

Protocol – rules prescribing strict observance to correct etiquette and procedure

Reprisal – the act or practice of getting even; forcing actions on someone for damages done or losses suffered

Sacristy – a room in a church where sacred vessels, instruments and clothing are kept

Scrummage – a tightly packed or disorderly crowd; a disorderly struggle

Tranquil – Calm; steady; free from disturbance or turmoil

Unction – the act of anointing as a ceremonial practice of consecration; anointing with sacred oil

Vestibule – passage, hall, or room between the outer door and the interior of a building; lobby
