Molding Samples in the House 

The restoration craftsmen have created samples of the wooden moldings Jefferson had in his retreat home.  They have installed these moldings in a couple of rooms in the house to give visitors and idea of their dimensions and what they looked like.

The photo on the left shows the door architrave, surbase (chair rail) and base molding.  The photo below gives the dimensions of the door architrave.  The base moldings are 12 3/8" tall.

Above, you can see the dimensions of the surbase, or chair railing.  

The photo on the right shows the window architrave.  Note the splayed panel jamb.  This design allowed more light in the house.
