Applying Lath in Preparation for Plastering

Before the ceilings and walls could be plastered, the restoration carpenters had to nail up small strips of wood, known as lath.  The lath provides a base for the first coat of plaster to wrap around.
Photos at left and below show carpenters nailing lath to the parlor ceiling.  Image below shows the back of lath which has been plastered.
