The Complete Housewife

March 17, 2018 - March 18, 2018

Mark Women’s History Month with a special look at two very different women, who were essential to Thomas Jefferson’s well being when he was in residence at Poplar Forest. Meet Thomas Jefferson’s granddaughter, Ellen Wayles Randolph, as portrayed by Rachel Honchul, Poplar Forest’s Programs and Educations Coordinator, and his enslaved cook Hannah, as portrayed by Cheyney McKnight, an historical interpreter dedicated to the research and education of the African Experience in 18th and 19th century America, and learn about their working relationship through The Complete Housewife, a new, 45-minute living history program, that explores the roles of women in early 19th century Virginia.

This special program is offered at 11:15, 12:15, 2:15, and 2:15 each day.

Admission to The Complete Housewife tour is included with general admission to Poplar Forest. Reservations are encouraged, as space is limited.
