June 13, 2013: Jefferson's Passions: Religious Freedom

John Ragosta, author of Religious Freedom: Jefferson's Legacy, America's Creed, discusses how Thomas Jefferson stood at the center of our understanding of religious liberty and the First Amendment. Participants will join Ragosta on the terras roof of Mr. Jefferson’s beloved Poplar Forest home, enjoy a glass of wine and discuss his expansive vision for establishing religious freedom.

Give dad something he's not expecting for Father's Day - a FREE tour of Poplar Forest! Admission is free for fathers all day.
July 4, 2013: Independence Day Celebration

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. What better way to celebrate Independence Day than at Thomas Jefferson's second home! Enjoy music, dancing, historical entertainment, games, storytelling, and the reading of the Declaration of Independence. Admission is $8.00 for adults. Ages 15 and under are FREE! House tours are also available for the reduced rate.
July 15, 2013: Summer Kids Camp: History, Archaeology, and Restoration

This summer, don't just read about history, live it during this unique, hands-on-history camp for rising 4th and 5th graders at Mr. Jefferson's retreat home, Poplar Forest! July 20, 2013: Shakespeare at Poplar Forest

The Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival is coming to Poplar Forest! Enjoy a live performance of Shakespeare's Cymbeline by Endstation Theatre Company. Grab your friends and join us for an evening of theatre, local beer, and great food under the stars on Jefferson's lawn. Advanced purchase is strongly recommended. July 29, 2013: Summer Kids Camp: Architecture

Rising 4th and 5th graders can enjoy a day camp to explore and experience the genius of Jefferson and his passion for architecture, including the characteristics that make Poplar Forest different! Visit http://www.poplarforest.org/programs/summer-camps for more information. The camp will run from July 29-August 2, 2013 from 9 a.m. to noon.
August 17, 2013: Obstacle Course Run

8:00 a.m. Run through the fields and wooded areas of Jefferson's Poplar Forest plantation, encountering obstacles along the way! Entry fees will support children's educational programming at Poplar Forest. Entry deadlines and fees to be announced
September 8, 2013: Grandparents Day

Spend the day with your grandchildren! Tours will focus on Jefferson's visits to Poplar Forest with his grandchildren. Hands-on-history will be open with family games and activities. Also enjoy living history interpreters in Jefferson's kitchen! Free with regular admission.
October 5, 2013: Archaeology Behind-the-Scenes tours

Archaeologists share their latest discoveries and take visitors inside the archaeology lab. Free with regular admission. Tours at 11:15 a.m., 12:15, 1:15 and 2:15 p.m. To make reservations please call the Museum Shop at (434) 534-8120.
October 12, 2013: Poplar Forest 5K and Children's Run

Support children's educational programming at Poplar Forest's 3rd annual 5K and Kid's Run. 5K Run at 8:30 a.m. and Children's Run at 9:30 a.m. Entry fees and deadlines to be announced.
October 26, 2013: Legends of the Land

Experience Mr. Jefferson's retreat in a whole new light. Listen to tradional African American story tellers divulge period folktales and myths as you take an evening lantern tour of the plantation. Also see if there are any ghoulish activities at Poplar Forest with local paranormal group, After Life Investigations! Participate in stargazing activites with Dr. Neal Sumerlin, Retired Founding Director of the Belk Observatory at Lynchburg College. Admission in $15. Raise a glass with Mr. Jefferson as we celebrate his passion for wine. Featuring Virginia winieries, artisans, local food vendors, and music. The festival begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. If you are interested in becoming a wine, food or craft vendor for the 5th Annual Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival please email winefestival@poplarforest.org for more information and the application.

December 15, 2013: Holiday Open House

Experience Mr. Jefferson's home decorated with period-inspired holiday decorations. Admission is FREE with a donation of non-perishable food for the Lynchburg Daily Bread or for our furry friends at the Bedford Humane Society.
