Field Schools and Youth Camps at Poplar Forest

May 25 - June 7, 2008-- Architectural Restoration Field School: This annual field school instructs 10-12 participants in the process of restoration and conservation using the state-of-the-art restoration now underway at Poplar Forest. The program is open to anyone interested in architectural restoration. Emphasis on a multi-disciplinary approach with hands-on training offered where possible.  Application deadline is April 30, 2008.  For more information, please call (434) 525-1806.

June 1 - July 4. 2008 -- Summer Field School in Historical Archaeology.  Help discover 18th and early 19th-century historic sites at Jefferson's year-round retreat home. The field school provides participants with a hands-on opportunity to learn practical skills of excavation, recording and lab procedures. Led by the professional archaeology staff, fieldwork will focus on Jefferson's ornamental landscape. Academic credit available through the University of Virginia.  Deadline for applications is April 8, 2008.
 
Poplar Forest also offers summer education camps for kids. The Archaeology, History, and Restoration Camp for rising 4th and 5th graders is July 14-18, 2008. The Environmental Education Science Camp for rising 5th and 6 graders will be held on specific days in June and July 2008. Click link for additional information.
