NEW EDUCATION KIT AVAILABLE ON LEWIS & CLARK
EXPEDITION
Poplar Forest Newsletter, Spring 2003
In
line with the start of the Lewis and Clark anniversary, Poplar Forest this year
added Lewis and Clark to its offerings of education kits.
The kits are circulated free of charge to schools and home schoolers upon
request. In the Lewis and Clark kit, students will use maps, timelines, and
hands-on activities to learn about Jefferson’s vision for the Corps of
Discovery and the expedition itself. Students will explore transportation and
scientific methods employed during the mission, as well as Native American
tribes encountered during the expedition.
The material is geared to students in grades 4-7. To request a kit, please
telephone (434) 534-8108.
Poplar Forest offers three other education kits free of charge. These kits
provide an overview of Jefferson and Poplar Forest (grades 1-5), look at the
life of enslaved workers through archaeological research (grades 1-6), and
explore childhood and games in colonial times (grades 1-5).
