| Jefferson did not specify the use of this room. It is thought that the granddaughters Ellen and Cornelia - who often accompanied Jefferson to Poplar Forest - temporarily moved into this room when modifications were made to their usual bedchamber on the east side of the house.
Note the shutter for the window overlooking the front portico. The shutter covers the bottom half of the window for privacy, not temperature control.
Photo below shows restoration craftsmen putting up the plaster grounds around the fireplace in this room in preparation for plastering, which is now complete.
