Independence Day Celebration

July 4, 2014 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

What better way to celebrate the 238th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence than at the home of the man who wrote it? Join us for performances by John Emil, Mark Campbell and Signora Bella, the Great Italian Equilibrist, dancing, demonstrations by colonial artisans and craftsmen, pony rides, puppet shows, storytelling, colonial children’s games and more! Explore a special exhibition of work created by Lynchburg students participating in the 2014 Shape Your World program, a joint project created by WordWorks! of Lynchburg and Poplar Forest to encourage civic literacy among kids. Sample a variety of local fare and libations. And not to be missed—a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence by Virginia State Senator Bill Stanley.

The event is from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, ages 15 and under are free. House tours are also available for a reduced rate. For more information, contact the Museum Shop at 434.534.8120.
