As a private non-profit, we do not receive any ongoing state or federal financial support. Our success depends on the commitment and generosity of the many individuals, businesses and foundations who have helped bring Poplar Forest to this exciting new phase in our development.
We rely on the generous, tax-deductible contributions made by people like you in order to support educational exhibits and programs, further restore the landscape designs and architecture, and to ensure that Jefferson’s vision can be shared and enjoyed more widely, and more effectively, than ever before.
“Colonial Klaus” Campaign
We’re raising funds to publish a children’s book entitled “Colonial Klaus in Thomas Jefferson’s House,” for a unique look at Poplar Forest history.
Poplar Forest’s Annual Fund operates on a yearly basis to help fund the daily, operational needs of preserving Poplar Forest and keeping it open to the public.
Through your generosity, we can create “A New Path to Jefferson,” exploring his enduring legacy in new, intriguing and revelatory ways.
Partnerships are available for organizations interested in supporting programs and events at Poplar Forest.

Poplar Forest puts gifts of appreciated securities to work right away. Securities are an easy way to give and offer tax advantages that can be discussed with a financial professional.
The quickest and most secure way to donate securities is to ask your broker to make a transfer from your account to the organization’s broker through the Depository Trust Company (DTC). Please instruct your broker to add your name in the subject line of the transfer so that we can identify you as the donor. Alternatively, you may wish to deliver personally held stock certificates directly or to register securities in the organization’s name. To alert us of a DTC transfer or for help with these other transactions, please contact Alyson Ramsey at firstname.lastname@example.org or 434.534.8128.
Does your employer match employee contributions? Matching contributions received from corporations are greatly appreciated and are a wonderful way to increase your support of Poplar Forest. Please check with your employer to find out if your company matches charitable contributions.
Planned giving can be as simple as choosing a nonprofit organization, charity or other cause as the beneficiary of an IRA, in addition to a family member or loved one. This ensures every penny goes to the desired charity and, when that organization is Poplar Forest, helps ensure that Poplar Forest will be preserved so that future generations will have the opportunity to visit and find inspiration for living lives of curiosity and creativity as Jefferson did.
If you are interested in setting up donations to occur monthly, quarterly or annually, please reach out to our Development Office at 434.534.8128. They can assist in setting up your recurring gift.
